My name’s Dave Williams and I love the book of Revelation and have enjoyed reading and studying it over the years.

As part of leading churches, I have twice done series on Revelation but they have always tended to be quite lengthy.

I know from other church leaders that this is two more than many others have done!

Over lock-down I discovered video shorts – 5 to 6 minute videos – and the idea was born of doing the whole of Revelation in twenty or so bite-size chunks.

Now when you produce a sermon or a talk you select what you want to include. There is always far more you could say if there was time and the congregation could stay awake. Well, that process of what to say and what not to say is exactly the same here, just a lot more intense.

If it means that people get through Revelation with some basic help and insight then I have done my job.

There is of course so much more and for those who want to study it more, there are many good commentaries of which I have found the following helpful in putting together these talks.

K. Beale with David Chapman, ‘Revelation – a shortened commentary’ (2015) A personal critique of my Bite Size videos is that I could not cover the many references to the Old Testament. Beale covers this important aspect of Revelation excellently.

Ian Paul, ‘Revelation – an Introduction & Commentary’: Tyndale NT Commentaries (2018) Paul has produced a very readable commentary in which he looks back to the Old Testament and seeks to bring out what Revelation would have meant to its original recipients and what it can mean to us today.

Leon Morris, ‘Revelation’: Tyndale NT Commentaries (1987) A very readable commentary providing a good framework for Revelation both in its Old Testament context and its meaning and relevance within the New Testament.

Michael Wilcox, The Message of Revelation’: The Bible Speaks Today (1991) Like the others, Wilcox provides a good framework for looking at Revelation, in particular using Jesus’ end-time teaching in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 as a key reference point to understanding what is going on.
